Well here we are into the new year, after a hectic Christmas period we have had a somewhat more relaxing January.
The Christmas period brought in some well earned funds for the band, swelling the coffers and making it possible to reinvest further in our instrument stock, the purchase of a new Tenor Horn for our Solo Horn player Nicola Swann and a New Cornet for our Principal Cornet Paul Cooper, If you want to hear the new horn, Nicola will be playing Untold Story on Sunday 9th Feb at Thornton Little Theatre.
During December the band played concerts at United Reform Church Cleveleys, a well attended start to the Christmas season for the Band, Next came the traditional Christmas Concert at Thornton Little Theatre, a firm favourite now for years and a packed house enjoyed music from both the senior band and the training band led by Jeremy Davis.
The next venues were the North Shore Golf club, a favourite engagement for both players and audience giving then Golfers chance to show off their singing abilities, the 12 days of Christmas being the highlight of the evening. Thornton FC was the next venue, with a much more lively version of the Golf Club concert the enthusiastic football club audience giving it absolutely everything in their singing with again 12 Days of Christmas being the evenings highlight, even with the PA system, the bands MD went home with a sore throat and hoarse voice, still it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for both band and audience (Crowd?)
All the jobs were packed in with Carolling sessions at local supermarkets and carol singing for the local masonic lodges has made for a very hectic end to the year.
January has been a time for re-grouping and working on this year plans, taking a step back from the contest season this winter the band have been preparing for the upcoming concerts on the 9th Feb at Thornton Little Theatre (7:30 start) and at St. Peters Church in the Fleetwood on the 23rd February. Reports on both the concerts will be in February’s update so look out for that.
Keep up the good work band and lets have a good year 2014.
