Mr David Houghton
Tenure – Current
David Houghton, a talented Musician, Composer, Arranger and Teacher has been appointed to Musical Director of the band in Summer 2019.
Dave had worked with the band on and off over the past few years filling in when Stephen was not available, forming a good relationship with the players, they were happy Dave decided to apply for the position when it came available.
Dave brings a wealth of banding knowledge with him from his years of top flight banding, as well as a superb Principal cornet player in his partner Nichola Gates. So far under Dave’s tenure we have secured an 8th place overall in a March and Hymn contest and recently a 3rd section 1st place.
Quite clearly Dave is building on the hard work and success brought to us by Stephen Craig.
Mr Stephen Craig
Tenure 2013-2019
Has now been appointed as the bands conductor and is turning out to be a popular choice with the band, his skill, experience and positive approach are plain to see making rehearsals a pleasure. Here are a few words from Stephen about his life and experience in the Army and his music: –
“I was born in West coast of Scotland on Mull of Kintyre, where, I learnt to play cornet in school from the age of 8, from there I played in local school band and brass band Campbeltown Brass.
I joined the Army and have served now for 26 years. My Army career has meant that I have travelled extensively throughout the world with the army serving in places like Hong Kong, Australia and America to name but a few.
I also served during the first gulf war as a medic.
I have been taught by some great brass teachers as Jack Mackintosh and Willy Lang and had the good fortune to perform in some fantastic venues. My most recent posting was last year to the first ever professional brass band at Weeton as the bands Flugel horn player with The Kings Division.
On a more personal note I am happily married to Katie, and, we both have a keen interest in dogs, currently we have two fantastic Golden Retrievers Norman and Alfie. (thats them on the right). Katie and I have recently purchased a property and are looking forward to being a part of the community, and for me, that’s starting with being a member of the Thornton Cleveleys Brass Band.”
